I downloaded Assassin's Salvation as a free book from . This is my first novel by this author, so I am unfamiliar with the series, yet I didn't feel a disconnection with the action that the reader can often experience when reading a series out of order. I enjoyed the unique world-building, although the assassin was watered-down to stern looks and reputation, there was nothing about him a reader would associate with such a fierce, cold-blooded assassin. There was also too much oversharing. I understand the author wanted to get his backstory out, but sharing such intimate details with someone you barely know-- not appropriate, therefore unrealistic. Good story if you like insta-love romances.
I can't get enough of Lindsay Buroker aka Ruby Lionsdrake, I think I have read just about everything she has written under both pen names. She has a fantastic imagination and a genius mind for story telling. You can't help but fall in love with each and every character, they really come to life and you'll feel every emotion you can possibly have while reading every one. I can truly say I have loved every book, story and novella that I have read by her. She also has an uncanny ability to keep it so exciting you can't put the books down and when you're done, you can't wait to read the next one. If you haven't read any of her work I highly recommend you do, it only takes one book to get hooked!
Ruby Lionsdrake is on a roll with The Mandrake Company. This is the third book and it is Jamie's turn in the spotlight. Jamie is the youngest of Ankari's crew and a mechanical genius. However she is also naive and feeling overwhelmed by all the boisterous male attention she gets from Mandrake's mercenaries. Sergei Zharkov is an assassin who was part of Vicktor's command from years past and suffered emotional wounds at the hands of their "counselors". The relationship these two very different people develop is fascinating to watch unfold. Jamie is by far the more stable and intelligent of the two while Sergei is the brawn. He deeply appreciates Jamie's calm acceptance of who he is and what he has done.

I love seeing characters from the first two books appear again and take part in the action in this one, something Ruby does extremely well. The perfect blend of action and smexy scenes continues in the book. Another pleasant feature is the overall quality of the editing which is not always the case with self-published material these days. Great read!
What does an assassin with a horrifying background and a sheltered mechanic have in common? In most places the answer would be nothing, but in the Mandrake Company anything can happen.

Jamie is sweet, sheltered, and a virgin. Sergei most definitely is NOT. In fact what hell he hasn't experienced he has instead dealt out to others. It's scared him - both physically and emotionally. But someone has put out a bounty on Vicktor Mandrake's head and Sergei feels the need to warn him. Somehow warning the captain leads to him and Jamie working together to unmask and take down the Finance Lord behind the bounty. And if a little romance occurs? Who am I to complain? Actually, this was the hottest novel yet. And the best. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
This has a more tender turn to it. Sergei, our hero, was repeatedly raped as a teen & has shame about that & being an assassin. Jamie, our heroine, is having a hard time aboard the Albatross as a pretty, young woman who prefers to avoid conflict, yet is continually catcalled by the crew.

Both have internal struggles to overcome that are well portrayed. I didn't feel like the attempted rapes of either of them were exploitative. This might be hard to read for some people, but I didn't find it too graphic.

I was able to enjoy the blossoming of the characters as they got more comfortable with each other, and the humor, & adventure I've come to expect from this author
This was the one book in the series. You know the one. There is always a book in a series you absolutely love, that is not as good as the rest. This was that book, for me. I loooovvvee the Mandrake Co series, and this one fell slightly short. I'm in no way saying that I didn't enjoy the book, so please don't get me wrong! This one just wasn't as good as the first two. I felt like some of the other reviewers who talked about there not being a lot of action in Jamie and Sergei's story. There was action, it just didn't feel quite as exciting as the previous two books. Did I finish the book with a smile on my face? Of course I did. Would I read this one again? Probably not.

These can all be read as standalone novels, however you'd enjoy it more if you read them in order. If you like Firefly, you'll love this series, so what are you waiting for?? Go!
